(18) Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office - Home StartFragment US 441 SE between canal 59 and SE 66th Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a new pumping station including a new driveway connection to US 441 SE. Watch for workers close to the roadway with shoulder closures. Watch for trucks and equipment entering and leaving the roadway. ... US 441 south at NW 2nd Street: Maintenance permit project: Crews are installing underground utilities under the sidewalks on the southbound side of South Parrott Avenue. Sidewalks will be patched with asphalt until all utility work is complete then sidewalks will be restored with concrete. No lane closures will be required. Please watc

BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY *When driving kids, deliver and pick them up as close to the school as possible. Don’t leave until they are in the schoolyard or building *If your child bikes to school, make sure he/she wears a helmet that meets one of the safety standards (U.S., CPSC, Snell, ANSI, ASTM or Canadian). Research indicates that a helmet can reduce the risk of head injury by up to 85 percent *Teach children to arrive at the bus stop early, stay out of the street, wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching the street, watch for cars and avoid the driver’s blind spot *Remind your children to stay seated at all times and keep their heads and arms inside the bus while riding

BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY Traveling to and from school *Plan a walking route to school or the bus stop. Choose the most direct way with the fewest street crossings and, if possible, with intersections that have crossing guards. *Walk the route with your child beforehand. The following is a summary of Florida’s school bus stop law requirements: Florida Motor Vehicles Laws require that motorists stop upon approaching any school bus which displays its flashing red lights and has its stop signs extended. 316.172 Traffic to stop for school bus. --- (1) (a) Any person using, operating, or driving a vehicle on or over the roads or highways of this state shall, upon approaching any school bus which displays a stop signal, bring such vehicle to a full stop while the bus is stopped, and the vehicle shall not pass the school bus until the signal has been withdrawn. A person who violates this section commits a moving violation, punishable as provided in chapter 318. (b)

Deputy for the Day

Conner has been fighting Chiari Malformation and Hydrocephalus for most of his young life; these ailments have caused him to undergo 24 surgeries to date. Conner also has Aspergers and is nothing short of a tough young man.
