Sheriff Paul C. May has released the following information:
RE: Bomb Threat
On January 12, 2011, at approximately 8:39 a.m., officials at the Okeechobee High School contacted School Resource Officers in reference to a potential bomb threat. The Criminal Investigations Division was contacted and all available detectives responded to the school for assistance.
It should be noted that the campus was at a significantly reduced attendance, as many students were exempt from testing this date, and were not present at the school.
During the search of the campus, it was locked down, for the safety of the students and faculty. Upon completion of the investigation, detectives established that no credible threat regarding a bomb was made. The campus was released from lockdown and the students were released early, as they would have been due to it being an early release day.
