Sheriff Paul C. May is proud to announce the
“Employees of the 2nd Quarter” of 2013.
Six employees were recognized for the second quarter of 2013. There are four categories for which employees may be recognized: Administration Employee, Citizen Volunteer, Detention Deputy and Law Enforcement. The recipients are as follows:
Administration Employee –Ashley Bishop
Citizen Volunteer – Robert Lee Howard, Jr.
Detention Deputy – James Roy Bass
Law Enforcement – Sgt. Shannon Peterson
Unit Citation-Jason Knapp and Joseph Smith
Ashley was nominated by Lt. Scott Deloney for her ability to multi-task as well as prioritize. She takes great pride in her work and settles for nothing less. “She is a great asset not to just me, but to the Okeechobee County sheriff’s Office”, stated Lt. Deloney.
Robert was nominated by Jail Administrator Ronnie White. Robert has been coming to the jail for many years to provide religious opportunities for all inmates in the county jail. Mr. Howard is sponsored by Dunklin Memorial Camp.
Roy was nominated by Sgt. Randy Worth and Lt. John R. Rhoden. Sgt. Worth stated that “Roy deserves the award for his consistent hard work, good personal and work ethics, professionalism, ability to get along with everyone, ability to learn and teach, his job proficiency and many other great traits that make him a great employee and an asset to the department”. Lt. Rhoden nominated Roy for his attempt at saving a life. In May, 2013, Officer Bass, on his way to work, stopped at a convenience store. A worker found an unconscious person. Officer Bass and the store worker initiated CPR until instructed to stop. Unfortunately the person was pronounced deceased. Lt. Rhoden stated, “Officer Bass showed no hesitation in acting as a first responder through the training received at this department. It is through his actions that give me faith in his ability to prove himself an asset to this department.”
Shannon was nominated by Captain Gary Bell who stated, “I would like to take this time to write this letter on the job you did in the apprehension of one of Okeechobee’s up and coming criminals. Your extra efforts are what made this all come together. This type of police work is what has been effective for many, many years and it’s nice to see that it is still effective and used. Job well done.”
Jason and Joseph were nominated by Connie Curry, Criminal Analyst. Connie stated, “I nominate Jason and Joseph because of their “user friendly” approach to employees. Employees are encouraged to call either of them if they have a problem. Technical changes in the future will be much easier with Jason and Joseph leading the way.”
Sheriff May said of these employees, “As always I am very proud of my employees and the job they do. This time is very hard because one of the employees that won Employee of this quarter was in my office two weeks ago and was advised they had won this award and was back in my office this past week to be advised that they were being laid off because of budget reductions. We are losing some very talented and dedicated employees and I don’t believe losing these people is in the best interest of the county. If I did not need each of these employees I would not have hired them. Congratulations to each employee that won Employee of the 2nd Quarter.”
