On August 9, 2013, Clayton Douglas Moore was presented a Citizen Service Citation, by Corporal Michael Hazellief, Sheriff Paul May and Captain Gary Bell.
On August 3, 2013, deputies were dispatched to 2138 SE 38 Trail, Okeechobee, in reference to a burglary in progress. Upon arrival deputies found Clayton Moore standing over the suspect. Mr. Moore advised deputies he heard his dogs barking and went outside and saw a man walking through his yard. He watched the subject go to his neighbor’s truck. The subject exited the truck and headed toward another neighbor’s vehicle. Mr. Moore approached the subject and questioned him. The subject(Alexander) began running through yards with Mr. Moore pursuing him. Mr. Moore knew there was a clothesline in the yard. Alexander, unaware of the clothesline, and ran into it. The line caught him around the throat area and knocked him to the ground. Mr. Moore was able to subdue Alexander until deputies arrived.
Alexander was placed under arrest. Upon further searching of Alexander, numerous stolen items were found in his pockets. He also had in his possession a black glove and black sock, for his hands, in his rear pocket. The surrounding area was searched and other burglary tools were discovered. Alexander was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Conveyance, Possession of Burglary Tools and Attempted Burglary to a Conveyance. He is being held on $15,000.00 bond
Corporal Michael Hazellief, supervisor on shift that evening, recommended that Mr. Moore receive a Citizen Service Citation. Had Mr. Moore not intervened, Alexander would have proceeded to burglarize the neighborhood.
