SHERIFF PAUL C. MAY HAS RELEASED THE FOLLOWING:
Re: Jody Maurice Crum
On August 3, 2011, a complaint was filed by an Okeechobee resident who stated a white male had knocked on her door offering her employment. According to the deputy report, the male wanted the resident to find Mexican males to cash checks.
On August 4, 2011, Detective Susan Morrison met with the complainant. The suspect made arrangements with the complainant to have five Mexican males cash the fictitious checks at local establishments.
Allegedly, the suspect created the checks on his computer, printed them out with real business names, a false bank account number and gave these checks to a confidential informant who then would take several Hispanic males to cash the checks at area stores in Okeechobee County for his financial gain.
The suspect is identified as Jody Maurice Crum, age 39, 5001 SW Rucks Dairy Road, Okeechobee, Florida. Crum was arrested for (18) counts of Forging Checks, (18) counts of Uttering Forged Checks, Possessing (10) or More Forged Checks, (18) counts of Counterfeiting a Payment Instrument and (1) count of Criminal Solicitation. He remains in the Okeechobee County Jail under a $108,000.00 bond.
