SHERIFF PAUL C. MAY HAS RELEASED THE FOLLOWING:
RE: Bank Robbery
On May 6, 2011, at 2:42 p.m., a bank alarm was activated at PNC Bank located at 2801 Highway 441 South, Okeechobee, Florida. Deputies were dispatched at that time. At 2:47 p.m., a physical description of the suspect along with a clothing description was dispatched to road patrol. Several minutes later, at 2:49 p.m., the suspect was in custody.
According to the deputy’s reports, Price entered the bank and handed the teller a note that demanded to put money into a bag. The teller read the note and advised the suspect that she didn’t have a bag. The suspect pointed at the note and again the teller advised him she had no bag. At that point the suspect turned and walked out of the bank.
The suspect did not brandish a weapon nor did he make any threats of harm to the employee.
Based on preliminary reports, the subject exited the bank and walked to a wooded area, where he had placed his bicycle for his “getaway.” Lt. Ammons spotted the suspect within minutes of the reported robbery and took the suspect into custody within minutes of the crime.
Price was charged with Attempted Bank Robbery and is being held in the Okeechobee County Jail with no bond.
Sheriff Paul C. May said of the arrest, “This man was apprehended very quickly, a good description was given by bank personnel, Lt. Ammons was in the right place and the suspect is in jail, which is the right place for him.
