Re: Undercover Alcohol Sale to Minors
Sheriff Paul C. May received numerous complaints from the general public in reference to alcohol being sold to minors.
On April 29, 2011, Detective Rick Durfee was conducting surveillance at the Citgo Gas Station, 510 NW Park Street, Okeechobee, Florida. Two male juveniles pulled into the parking lot and proceeded to stand outside the vehicle. The juveniles appeared to be between the ages of 15-17. The juveniles walked toward the store. One juvenile entered the store, while the other one remained outside. The second juvenile then entered the store. After a few minutes, the clerk along with both juveniles exited the store. The clerk was carrying two 18-packs of beer. The clerk placed the beer in the vehicle of the juveniles. The juveniles were identified by Detective Durfee and confirmed that they were in fact 17 and 16 years old.
The juveniles were released to their parents.
The following subject was arrested for Selling Alcohol to Minors and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor:
Undersheriff Noel Stephen said of the arrest, “Our children are our most valuable asset and the sale of alcohol to minors will not be tolerated.”
