Sheriff Paul C. May has released the following information:Reference: Suicide of Inmate
On April 16, 2011, at approximately 11:34 p.m., deputies responded to the Okeechobee County Jail in reference to an inmate suicide. It was learned that an inmate had committed suicide. The victim is as follows:
STUART THOMAS PARR
W/M; DOB: 1/26/82
The victim had been incarcerated in the Okeechobee County Jail since December 16, 2010, for the offenses of Aggravated Battery, Battery-Domestic Violence, Battery, two counts-Criminal Mischief Less Than $200. On January 7, 2011, additional charges of two counts-Felony Battery, were added. On February 16, 2011, the subject became involved in an altercation with detention deputies and was subsequently charged with two counts-Battery-Detention Staff and Criminal Mischief Less Than $200.
The exact cause of death will be determined by the St. Lucie County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The victim’s family has been notified.
Sheriff May said of the death, “I hate that this happened. We do everything we can to keep this from happening, but the fact remains if someone wants to hurt themselves, they can. My thoughts and prayers go to the family.”
